Italian Cookies Guide: Biscotti, Amaretti & Lady Fingers
Italians rarely skip something sweet with their coffee. Here are the classic Italian cookies and how to enjoy them.
Biscotti: made for dunking
Biscotti means "twice baked." The dough is baked as a log, sliced, then baked again, which gives biscotti their famous crunch. Dip them in espresso, cappuccino or a glass of dessert wine.
- Almond biscotti: the classic
- Chocolate biscotti: for chocolate lovers
- Pistachio and citron biscotti: nutty and bright
Soft amaretti: chewy and almondy
Amaretti are almond cookies with a crackly outside and a soft, chewy center. They are naturally rich, so one or two is perfect with coffee.
Tip: crumble amaretti over vanilla ice cream, poached pears or a fruit crumble.
Lady fingers: the secret to tiramisu
Light, dry sponge cookies that soak up espresso without falling apart. Néssi lady fingers are the base of tiramisu, trifles and icebox cakes. Our easy tiramisu recipe takes 20 minutes plus chilling time.
Something to spread
Pair cookies with pistachio spread or chocolate hazelnut spread for an easy dessert board.
